Steelmaking requires lime products to act as a flux and slag conditioner, as well as to protect the steel from oxidising and remove impurities. Around 50 kilos of quicklime are required to produce one tonne of steel. And dolomite is needed to protect the fireproof lining inside the steel furnace, oxygen converter and the ladle furnace, and to extend the equipment’s life.
