Calcium carbonate occurs in the earth’s crust in the form of limestone and dolomite.
As limestone is a naturally occurring substance, there are normal variations in composition as a result of the formation of the minerals. These variations can be managed through careful quality control and planning before the raw material is quarried.
The raw material is then carefully checked throughout its processing, from crushing to supply of the final product. Analysis takes place in SMA’s own laboratory and mainly involves establishing the chemical composition during production and ensuring that the final product has the desired fraction size.
To ensure high-quality analysis, we carry out comparative controls in cooperation with accredited laboratories. In addition, scales and measuring instruments are continually calibrated and the traceability of reference material is ensured according to national and international standards.
