
The pH-raising properties of lime make it an excellent aid in salmonella sanitation. Salmonella bacteria die at a pH level above 10, and lime has the ability to quickly and effectively increase pH levels.
The most commonly used type of lime is slaked lime. When an area is affected, lime is used to sanitize barns, manure pits, and roads leading to and from the contaminated area.
