SMA Mineral - A world full of lime

Slaked Lime

Slaked lime, calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), is formed when quicklime reacts with water.

What is Slaked Lime?

Slaked lime is a white, powdery substance consisting of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). Slaked lime is produced by mixing quicklime (calcium oxide, CaO) with water in a chemical reaction known as “slaking.” The result is a strongly alkaline solution that can exist in either solid form or as a liquid, depending on the amount of water used.

Use

Slaked lime is a versatile substance used in many areas.

In industry, Slaked lime is used to purify flue gases and neutralize acids used in processes. It is also used in water treatment to manage acidic water and remove heavy metals.

The construction materials industry uses lime in the production of mortar, plaster, and cement mixtures to bind materials and improve durability.
