Sonya Fielding is stepping down today from her role as CEO and Group Managing Director of SMA Mineral.
During her time at SMA Mineral, she has led the company’s transformation and strengthened the organisation by bringing in new expertise. She has also driven the development of ZEQL: a collaboration between SMA Mineral and SaltX Technology aimed at creating a more resource-efficient quicklime production process with significantly lower emissions than conventional methods. This work included preparations for setting up operations in Mo i Rana, Norway, and securing grid capacity for the project.

The board has appointed Synnöve Daagarsson, currently CFO of SMA Mineral, as acting CEO and group president.
Synnöve has extensive experience in change management, strategic development and business management. She has held senior positions at Stora Enso and Sandvik, and has also served as CFO of Bilfinger Industrial Services Sweden.

The Board will initiate the recruitment process for a permanent CEO and Group President. In the meantime, operations will continue as planned, with a focus on customers, employees, and the company’s ongoing development.
