OECD visited our headquarters in Persberg

The purpose of the visit was to get a picture of what issues exist in the region regarding the mining and minerals sector.

On April 23, a delegation from the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) visited SMA Minerals’ headquarters in Persberg. This was one of the stops on their tour of Bergslagen within the two-year project “Enhancing EU mining regional ecosystems to support the green transition and secure mineral raw materials supply”.

Region Örebro is participating in the project, which aims to develop mining regions and support regions and municipalities in issues related to mining – environment, permits, exploration, skills, infrastructure, social acceptance, etc. Other stops during the OECD’s trip in Bergslagen were in the areas of Lindesberg (Lovisa mine and Håkansboda), Ljusnarsberg (Kopparberg and Yxsjöberg) and Filipstad (Bergsskolan).

The purpose of the tours is to get a picture of what issues exist in the region regarding the mining and minerals sector, what challenges stakeholders see and what they would like to see improved. The OECD is gathering input from a wide range of stakeholders, including municipalities, regions, academia and other authorities such as SGU and NV. The results will be compiled in a report to identify opportunities and areas for improvement.
