The lime works in Luleå has a long history of lime production and has been part of SMA Mineral since 2014. The facility is strategically located in close proximity to SSAB, which is also one of the operation’s largest customers. The close distance between production and use creates efficient logistics flows and contributes to strong local industrial cooperation.
The facility mainly produces quicklime used in the steel and mining industries. Quicklime plays a crucial role in several industrial processes, including the purification of raw materials and ensuring the correct chemical properties in the final products. Although lime is often an invisible component, it is a prerequisite for many of the materials and functions on which society depends.
